Makayla Wenzel 10/25/14
Our Tyler Roth/WKVI Athlete of the Week for this week is Makayla Wenzel, a member of the Girls Cross Country Team at West Central High School.
Makayla advanced to the Semi-State round of the Cross Country Tournament as an individual runner with solid performances in both the Sectional and Regional rounds. She finished 5th in the Rensselaer Sectional with a time of 20:52.8 and followed that by taking 40 seconds off of her time the next week, running a 20:12.8 race on the challenging New Prairie course.
Her appearance in this, her Senior year, is a repeat performance from her Junior year after she won the Sectional. She also had a 2nd place Sectional finish in her Sophomore year.
An outstanding student, Makayla also is a 3-year letterwinner in basketball and track for the Trojans.
Makayla is the daughter of Kevin and Natalier Wenzel and will be featured on a future “Saturday Sportsline with Nathan Welter” on K99.3 and will have a featured picture and story on wkvi.com.
