Lady Chargers Suffer First Loss

MILWAUKEE, WI – The Ancilla College women’s basketball team suffered their first loss of the season Saturday against sixth seeded Milwaukee Area Technical College.

The Lady Chargers fell on the road to sixth seeded Milwaukee Area Technical College November 15th 96-87. Despite over twenty lead changes and ten ties, the Lady Stormers prevailed in the end by nine, which was the largest spread margin of the game.

Despite a late ankle injury, freshman Khadijah Moore led the team with an impressive performance of 29 points and 12 rebounds. Sophomore Taylor Kuhnle, who also fought through an ankle injury and was eventually sidelined, banked 15 points of her own, nine of which were at the free throw line. The freshman duo of Alexis Williams and Danije Sylvester each demonstrated remarkable play with Williams registering 14 points for the day and Sylvester grabbing 10 rebounds.

With a tough task at hand, head coach Tom Robbins was impressed with how his team handled the challenge, “The girls encountered a lot of adversity today between injuries, foul trouble, and the quality of our opponent, but they continually stepped up to meet those challenges. At different points in the game several players took the team on their back individually to get us through the tough stretches of the game. Alex Williams turned up her offense by attacking the basket continually between the ten and eight minute marks in the second half. Taylor Kuhnle held the team together with several runs during stretches when many of the starters were on the bench with foul trouble; which included going nine for nine from the free throw line. Khadijah Moore single handedly brought the team back from nine down at the six minute mark by knocking down the threes and attacking the basket until she had to sit down due to an ankle injury.”

The Lady Chargers face one more road opponent before returning home for their November 22nd match-up with Hope College; a road game with Bethel College JV set for November 20th kick starts their week. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 PM.
