Lady Chargers Wrap-up Season

TOLEDO, OH – Ancilla volleyball finished postseason action this weekend 1-2 with a Cincinnati State loss Friday and a win loss split against Jackson and Vincennes respectively.

On Friday October 31st, the Lady Chargers were defeated by Cincinnati State 13-25, 24-26, 25-22, 22-25. To redeem their Friday night loss, Ancilla matched-up against Jackson College, who had previously accounted for two of their regular season losses, beating the Lady Jets 25-17, 27-25, 24-26, 25-22. Ultimately, the team would end their postseason run with a three set loss to Vincennes University 16-25, 21-25, 23-25 later that day.

The Lady Chargers were led offensively by the sophomore duo of Mariah Kinney and Amber Redinger who had 27 and 26 kills respectively. Suzanne Grimm ran the offense with 40 assists, while Hannah Kistler followed behind with 28 of her own. Mackenzie White led the team with 60 digs in coordination with Grimm’s 38; Grimm would also add 6 aces to the cause.

Head Coach Lana Singleton reflects on the weekend, “I was very proud of the way the girls battled all weekend; we were missing some kids and some girls really stepped up. I was especially happy with the team effort against Jackson. We played some of our best volleyball of the season in the Jackson win to keep us alive in the tournament.” As for the completion of another season for Singleton she comments, “It is a great group of a girls and has been a fun season.”

Ancilla’s 2014 campaign would halt their overall record at 21-21; with this record, the Lady Chargers record their fourth twenty plus win season since 2004, but also, they add their fifth season with a .500 and over record in a ten year span.

Ancilla College, part of The Center at Donaldson, offers 18 Associate’s Degree and eight athletic programs. Since 1937, the College has been a sponsored ministry of the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ and is located two miles south of US 30 on Union Road near Plymouth, Indiana.
