Rain, sleet nor even SNOW, kept the Laville Lancers from accomplishing a feat that has stumped them since 2003. Reaching a football sectional championship game. They defeated the Triton Trojans 15-0 to advance to next Friday nights Sectional Chmapionship game against Winamac in 1A-Sectional 41 play.
"Our kids fought hard. We knew this game was going to be nothing like the first meeting. Weather conditions being one reason. But we knew Coach Johns (Triton) would have a different gameplan of sort against us. But our kids hung in there, fought the elements and picked up a big road win to play another Friday.", said Laville HC Will Hostrawser.
After a scoreless first half, a few penalties set Triton deep inside the 5 yard line. On 4th down, Joey Corder had to kick into a 35 mph wind gust from his five yard line. The kick got deflected, started sailing straight up until it's peak, then mother nature took over and blew the ball back 7 yards to the Triton 5 yard line for a 5 yard punt. From there, Triton took advantage of the field position and scored the games first points on a 5 yard touchdown run by Mason Leed putting Laville up 7-0 a minute & a half into the 2nd quarter. The score held until halftime despite a late drive by Triton at the end of the quarter.
Laville tallied their second score on a 42 yard drive finished by Ben Norton's two yard scamper into the endzone. A two point conversion was completed making the Laville lead 15-0.
"I thought Triton played a great game. They were making things very difficult for us to establish our ground game. But I also thought our defense made some key stops when Triton was trying to throw the ball on us.", added Hostrawser.
Triton finishes the season 3-8.
Next up for Laville (8-3) will be Winamac (11-0) at Winamac for the Sectional Championship. That game will be heard on WKVI 99.3FM.
