GIRLS BASKETBALL 1A REGIONAL RECAP:

The Caston 1A Regionals were one of the highlight sites this weekend.  Simply because if featured two state ranked teams and a couple of underdogs who earned the right to travel to Caston.

Game 1 featured defending Class 1A State Champs, Oregon-Davis against Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian.  The Lady Bobcats provided relentless full court pressure pretty much the entire game that rattled Fort Wayne causing 36 turnovers by games end to earn a 65-43 win to the Championship game.

“I really thought our defensive pressure end to end helped us get off to a quick start “offensively”, said Oregon-Davis boss Terry Minix.

Three Lady Cats scored in double digits but Taylor Kranenburg led Oregon-Davis with 19 points.

#8 Kouts survived a scare from North White to meet Oregon-Davis in the Championship nightcap 53-41.

CASTON 1A REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP:   The Lady Bobcats where back in a Regional Championship again.  It was that experience that eventually led to a 60-47 beating of #8-Kouts to advance to the Crown Point Semi-State next Saturday.

Oregon-Davis lined up with a bigger line-up than Kouts who had no one start over 5’9.  Where Coach Terry Minix wasn’t to pleased with his teams first game shooting, he must of felt a little better after the first quarter where O.D. led 21-15.  Kranenburg had 10 points in the first quarter alone.   A combined 7 three’s were nailed down after the first 8 minutes.

Once things settled down in the 2nd quarter halftime rolled around and OD carried 30-27 lead into halftime.  Kranenburg got offensive help by Alex Bope and Lexi Minix who added 8 first half points.

The third quarter seen a shaky performance by Oregon-Davis ball-handling ability.  Five turnovers within the first four minutes of the quarter allowed Kouts to get the game tied at 33.  Both teams exchanges buckets with O.D. finishing with a 45-41 advantage at the end of the third quarter.

Here’s where post-season experience proved important.  O.D. stepped up their defensive effort on the ball, as a result a few key possessions where lost either through a turnover or a forced shot for Kouts.  The Lady Cats never stopped their offensive commitment either making sure they matched each Kouts bucket down the stretch.

Junior Taylor Kranenburg once again led the Lady Cats with a career post-season high 24 points, 42 for the two Regional games.

It’s going to be another match-up with Lafayette Central Catholic this Saturday at 1pm in Crown Point.
