Triton football gets a new Football Coach

The Triton Athletic Department is proud to announce Ron Brown as our new Varsity Football coach beginning in the fall of the 2015-2016 school year. Coach Brown will take over for Coach John Johns, who led the Trojans to a 4-17 record over the past two seasons.

Coach Johns is departing the Trojans to take a teaching position at Benton Central High School. This change for Coach Johns will allow him to be closer to his family.

“Coach Johns did a great job for us over the past two years,” said Triton Athletic Director, Mason McIntyre. “We would like to thank him for his years of service and wish John and his family nothing but the best going forward.”

Coach Brown will take over for the Trojans after 5 years as an assistant under former head coaches Rodney Younis and John Johns. Prior to coming to Triton, Coach Brown was an assistant coach for three years at Centerville High School, in Centerville, IN. During Coach Brown’s three years under Coach Matt Holeva, they went 24-6. Coach Brown also serves as a co-coach for the Triton Wresting program with Coach Matt Arvesen.

“We are excited about Coach Brown and what he will bring to our football program as the head coach,” McIntyre said. “Coach Brown has shown he has the leadership skills to run a successful program. He and Coach Arvesen have done an outstanding job with our wrestling program and I anticipate the same results with our football program.”

Several other Triton coaches will fill out Coach Brown’s staff. Serving along side Coach Brown will be Matt Arvesen (current Triton Science teacher and co-wrestling coach), Rodney Younis (current Triton PE and Health teacher and former varsity football coach), Jason Groves (current Triton English teacher and varsity boys basketball coach), Jeremy May (current football assistant, EL girls basketball coach, and JH girls track coach), Jason Thompson (current JH wrestling coach), and Shaun Belin (current wrestling volunteer coach). The coaching staff will begin working with the team immediately.

The Trojans will begin play against the Caston Comets in the newly formed Hoosier North Athletic Conference on August 21st.
