Ancilla Volleyball Ransacked by Raiders

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – The Lady Chargers dropped a Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) conference game against the Raiders of Grand Rapids Community College, by a score of 9-25, 15-25, 16-25.

With 20 digs, Mackenzie White led the Charger defense. Teammate Suzanne Grimm dished out eleven digs of her own and provided nine assists. Ancilla’s offense struggled to find a rhythm, as Mariah Kinney put down just seven kills and Sophia Smith added five.

“Our ladies played with a lack of enthusiasm and heart against #11 Grand Rapids,” commented Charger coach Lana Singleton. “Grand Rapids is a good team, but I would have liked to see more of a fighting spirit from my girls. They need to regroup and get back on track for tomorrow night, where a conference showdown between KVCC and Ancilla could determine our chances of making Region XII post-season play.”

The Lady Chargers will host Kalamazoo Valley Community College on Thursday, October 16, at 6:30 p.m. Earlier this season, Ancilla earned their first win ever over the Cougars in regular play. The volleyball team has designated this game as Sophomore Night and will recognize five individuals. Players include: Suzanne Grimm, Mariah Kinney, Amber Redinger, and Mackenzie White, while team manager Melody Trostel will also be acknowledged.

Ancilla College, part of The Center at Donaldson, offers 18 Associate’s Degree and eight athletic programs. Since 1937, the College has been a sponsored ministry of the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ and is located two miles south of US 30 on Union Road near Plymouth, Indiana.
