Laville season ends with loss to #1 Winamac

The Winamac Warriors were very hot on a very chilly night in the Sectional Championship Football game in Class 1A-Sectional 41 against Laville.   By nights end, the number one team in 1A defeated Laville 33-3.

Winamac botched a punt snap which gave LaVille great field position.  They got inside the Winamac 20 and took an early lead 3-0 off the 27 yard field goal by Mason Leed with 4:33 left.  That was all the scoring Laville was going to get.

Parker Fox answered with a 6-yard TD run on QB draw to give Winamac a 7-3 lead.

Winamac scored again off a Laville short 14 yard punt.  End result was Parker Fox hitting Matt Shorter on a short 2 yard pass making the score 14-3 with 6:53 left in the 2nd quarter.  That score held to halftime.  LaVille had a 21-yard run in their second play from scrimmage, after that they finished  -5 total yards in the half.

The 3rd quarter had more of the same, Warriors control,  off a good opening drive which led to a 25 yard field goal by Gage Garpow making it a 17-3 Winamac lead with 6:38 left in the 3Q.

Winamac then took advantage of field position, when they forced a fumble in the Laville endzone recovered by Lancer Mason Leed for a Safety….19-3 Warriors.

While Winamac’s defense was keeping Laville’s offense to -1 yards, the offense kept rolling as Jeff Nies caught an 8-yard TD pass from Fox at the 4:08 mark of the 3Q making 26-3 Warriors.

Winamac capped off it’s scoring in the 4th quarter with a 1 yard run by Risner at the 11:11 mark to put the icing on the cake at 33-6.

Laville completes it’s first winning season in 11 years finishing 8-4 on the season.   Ben Norton finished with 51 yards on 13 carries for the Lancers.

#1 Winamac plays Pioneer in a rematch of earlier in the season next Friday night.
