Plymouth 10U Battles Back to Beat Bremen

BREMEN – Wednesday night’s Boys of Summer league action paired the traveling Emergency Forklift Service’s Plymouth 10u against the hometown Bremen Lions. This back-and-forth contest saw multiple lead changes, with the Pilgrims eventually coming out on top, 10-9.

Plymouth started the game with a ringing single by lead-off hitter, Blake Mackey. After a passed ball and crafty base running, Mackey was scored by a hard it ground ball up the middle by clean-up hitting Branson Adkins. Bremen battled back in the bottom of the first tying the game with double by hard-hitting Silas Laidig.

The scoring continued in the top of the second for Big Red, as Preston Wolfe plated two big RBIs, scoring his brother Parker Wolfe and fellow Pilgrim Jak Chaney. At the end of two, Plymouth led 3-1.

Fast forward to the bottom of the fourth inning, the Lions quickly regained the lead starting with a single from Preston Williams, scoring B.J. Forbes. Now only trailing by a run, sweet-swinging Laidig stepped in the box poised to add another two runs with his second double of the night. The Lions now led 4-3. Not to be outdone was Brady Weldy, smacking a bomb to centerfield, plating three Lions in the process. Bremen finished their big inning leading 3-6.

A feisty Pilgrim club came back with two walks and a hit batter, loading the bases to start the fifth inning. Drake Feece started the rally with a quality 9-pitch at-bat, walking in Big Red’s fourth run. Parker Wolfe followed with a game-tying, 2-run base hit. The Pilgrims weren’t done, adding another two runs with RBIs by Chaney and Preston Wolfe. Heading to the bottom of the fifth, Big Red led 8-6.

Four walks and sloppy defense put Bremen in position to regain the lead. Landon Bates and Laidig combined to lead a Bremen 3-run fifth inning, giving the Lions a 1-run lead heading into the last inning, up 8-9.

The top of the sixth started with two quick ground outs to the pitcher. Big Red was down to their final out. Jack Christiansen was hit by a pitch, Mackey walked with Christiansen advancing to third base. Parker Bagley followed with a 2-strike base hit batting in a streaking Christiansen, tying the game at 9 runs. Pilgrim runners were now one second and third, with scrappy Austin Price at the dish. With a one-and-one count, Price singled up the middle scoring Mackey and promptly giving the Pilgrims a lead they would never relinquish.

In the end, resiliency was the theme as Emergency Forklift Service’s Plymouth 10u won a back-and-forth contest against a lively group of Lions, 10-9.

Preston Jessen earned the win for Plymouth, surrendering three runs on two hits, and striking out one. Tre Jordan recorded the last three outs to earn the save for Big Red. The Wolfe boys led the Pilgrims; Preston tallying 3-RBIs, and Parker going 2-for-2, adding two more RBIs of his own.

The Lions were led by Laidig, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and four runs batted in.

Both teams will be back in action with another league game against each-other, this time, in Plymouth on Friday night. Game starts at 7:00pm at Ed Hess field.
