Plymouth 10U Beats Nappanee in Season Opener

PLYMOUTH – Bats were blistering in the season opener as Emergency Forklift Service’s Plymouth 10u defeated Nappanee 15-10 on Wednesday night.

Capitalizing on four hits and two walks, the Panthers jumped out to an early lead, plating five first inning runs. Plymouth battled back with a run of their own, ending the first down 5-1.

After two scoreless innings from Caleb Bowling, the Plymouth bats exploded, taking the lead for good with a seven-run third inning. Preston Jessen started the hit barrage with a double, scoring Parker Wolfe from second. Tre Jordan followed with a 2-run single scoring Jack Christiansen and Jessen. Big Red tied the game with Malachi Sieh’s RBI single. The Pilgrims ended the inning scoring three more runs on RBIs from Trey Delp, Alex Harding and Blake Mackey. The third inning ended with Plymouth up 7-5, a lead they wouldn’t relinquish.

Big Red scraped across another 5-runs in the bottom of the fourth, highlighted by Delp’s 2-RBI double. Bowling, Sieh and Jak Chaney added runs batted in elevating the Pilgrim lead to 5-13.

Jordan was back at it in the fifth, doubling home Christiansen and Jessen. Plymouth headed into the bottom of the sixth up 5-15.

The sixth inning got off to an ominous start, being delayed by lightning for 30-minutes. The never-say-never Panthers scored five runs, highlighted by a triple from heavy hitting Bogan. In the end, fireballer Chaney struck out the side, ending Nappanee’s comeback bid 10-15.

Bowling earned the win for Plymouth, pitching three innings, surrendering five runs on five hits, striking out two. Chaney recorded the last nine outs to earn the save, striking out seven of the nine batters he faced.

The Plymouth bats were the story of game, pounding out 15-runs on ten hits. Leading the way, was Jessen going 3-for-3 and scoring three times. Big-hitting Jordan added two hits and 4-RBIs, while Delp batted in another 3-runs. Sieh and Chaney finished with two hits apiece, each colleting RBIs of their own.

Nappanee had ten hits in the game, Maltos, Cook, Bogan and Raasch each collected multiple hits for the Panthers.

Emergency Forklift Service’s Plymouth 10u (1-0) faces Bremen on Wednesday night at Ed Hess Field, 7:00pm start.
