Big plays move Triton to second round of football Sectionals

It took the third series of the first quarter before the Triton Trojans got on the board against the South Central Satellites.    But once the Trojans got going, big plays were made leading to 34-20 victory at South Central.

The first big play was when South Central’s Senior quarterback Kane Klimczak fumbled on a keeper at his own 40-yard line.  It was South Central’s first possession of the second quarter.   The loose ball was recovered by  Triton linebacker Joey Corder, who returned it for the Trojans’ first touchdown.

Immediately after, the Triton kickoff to the Satellites was fumbled again, recovered by Gage Waddle who returned it 72 yards for a 12-7 Triton lead in under a minute and half.

From that point of the game, Triton never looked back.  But South Central battled hard getting the game close with a Noah Eaton touchdown to pull within 5 with under 10 minutes left in the game.

Two other big plays favored Triton, both coming off South Central Coach Rick Burnau’s to try a pooch kick and onside kick to Triton.

Trailing 19-14, the South Central pooch kick gave Triton excellent field position eventually leading to a gut busting run by Trojan fullback Jeremy Jones on a 64 yard touchdown run making the score 26-14 Triton.

South Central answered back with a big play of their own when Jacob Clindaniel was the recipient of a 80 yard touchdown pass by Eaton to cut the Triton lead back to 26-20 with 4:31 left in the game.

Then an onside kick by South Central once again gave the Trojans great field position and Jones once again busted open a 50 yard scamper to the end zone that put the game to rest 34-20.

The sophomore Jones finished with 216 yards on the ground with 3 touchdowns scored.

Triton moves to the second round of the Secitonals with a home game against Northern State Conference rival Laville this Friday night.
