Bremen Swimming Star enters Hall of Fame!
The Indiana High School Swimming & Diving Hall of Fame has announced 23 swimmers and 5 coaches in their class of 2015 inductees.
The Hall of Fame strives to help commemorate the history of high school swimming in a state legendary for it; they also host a Hall of Fame meet every year, and raise money to provide scholarships to Indiana High School swimmers.
The Hall in general is heavy on swimmers from Gen X, the baby boomers, and prior generations, which is reflected again in the class of 2015 with only five out of the 23 swimmers starting their high school careers even in the 1990’s or 2000’s. Among the oldest inudctees in the class is Albert Ehlers, a Whiting High swimmer from 1931-1933, and Harry Clark, the coach of East Chicago Washington High School from 1929-1941.
This list is riddled with high school state champions and high school and college All-Americans. One name that immediately jumps out locally is Bremen’s Mike Stoller. He was a swimmer at Bremen from 1999 to 2001.
Stoller was a four-time High School All-American, who competed in the 2000 Olympic Swimming Trials and achieved historical success at the IHSAA Swimming State Finals.
He was a freestyler who finished as the State record holder in the 50, a State runner-up, followed by back-to-back State titles. Stoller still holds the Bremen school records (20.46) and pool (21.51) records.
Stoller also seen success in the 100 freestyle going from fifth in his first State finals to State runner-up and champion. He too, currently holds the school record-holder in that event (45.27).
He help lead Bremen four times to the StateState finals in the 200 free relay and which still is a school record at 1:27.99. In the 400 free relay, they made the StateState finals three times and have the school record (3:12.97).
Stoller attended Southern Cal where he continued his success becoming a Division 1 All-American.
He is currently living in Los Angeles, CA with his wife and twins.
