Chargers Split Weekend Road Series
OLNEY, IL – The Ancilla men’s basketball team split their weekend series with a win Friday at Olney CC and a loss Saturday against Vincennes University.
The Chargers squeezed past the Blue Knights of Olney Central College Friday November 7th by a tight 54-53 score. A trio of sophomores led Ancilla to that Friday night victory with Eric Waddell running the offensive play recording 21 points; while Juwan Johnson followed close clocking in 18 points and 7 rebounds of his own. Mike Wickliff rounded out Ancilla’s night with 11 points and 7 rebounds in the win.
Head coach Aaron Butcher comments, “This was a huge program win. To go on the road, without two starters, and beat a solid Division 1 program in Olney Central speaks a lot about our guys’ character and toughness.”
Ancilla turned around Saturday night to play a tough nationally ranked number one Vincennes University. The Trailblazers came out victorious, knocking Ancilla off 78-57. Juwan Johnson led the team with 13 points; while teammates Wickliff and Waddell chipped in an additional 12 and 10 points respectively. Butcher saw the talent in a very skilled Vincennes team, “Vincennes is ranked number one in the nation for a reason. They are very talented, but I am happy with the way we competed. We were down 11 with 9 minutes to go. We would have liked to have faced them with our full squad but the guys that played will benefit from this game.”
The Chargers come home for a four game home streak to end November, leading off with the Cardinals of Andrews University Thursday November 13th. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
Ancilla College, part of The Center at Donaldson, offers 18 Associate’s Degree and eight athletic programs. Since 1937, the College has been a sponsored ministry of the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ and is located two miles south of US 30 on Union Road near Plymouth, Indiana.
