Lady Pilgrims get a huge win over Valparaiso
Strong defensive stops in crucial times of the game allowed the Lady Pilgrims (4-0) a 56-50 win over Valparaiso (1-3).
“We struggled hipping out in the first half, and I felt that’s why Valpo was able to have success against underneath keeping the game close. The second half they simply extended us a little more, therefore, getting betting looks on their one-on-one drives, but we didn’t break. We made some key stops when needed.”, said Plymouth Coach Dave Duncan.
Valparaiso was sparked by a scrappy Guard Grace Withrow who finished with 12 points for the Lady Vikings. However, Valparaiso shot themselves with untimely turnovers including two inbound passes that hit the bottom of the basketball board. Both odd plays resulted in 4 points for the Lady Pilgrims.
The offense also took some ownership in the win, specifically the Seniors. The 4 starting Seniors combined for 39 of the of the 56 points scored.
“We need our Seniors to come through offensively. Not sure why we continue to struggle from the line (15/29 vs Valpo), but it hasn’t cost us a game yet. I guess we have to make sure we are in position during a close ballgame, that we don’t have to worry about making “big” free throws. I know we can shoot the ball, we just need to be consistent doing it.”, said Duncan.
