Laville Girls drop season opener on the hardwood to Mishawaka Marian
It was a strong start for the Lady Lancers of Laville in a match-up against Mishawaka Marian but ball pressure kept Mishawaka Marian ahead for most of their 46-34 Win at the Dale E. Cox Gymnasium.
Both teams exchanged scores in the 1st quarter with Mishawaka Marian finishing with a 13-12 after one.
Marian Coach Pat Catanzerite applied the full court press in the 2nd quarter, 8 Laville turnovers later, the Lady Lancers trailed 30-18 by halftime. Laville’s other issue was the inability to hit free throws going 6/13 in the first half.
The Lady Knights didn’t let up early in the third quarter either. Marian’s transition game began to wear down Laville. To the Lady Lancers credit, they would not go away and trailed by only 12 points at 42-30.
Both teams tightened their defensive effort to where Marian outscored Laville 6-4 in the final frame.
Laville’s two glaring stats including a poor shooting night from the line (8/19) and 15 turnovers accounting for half of Marians points in the game.
