Soccer Well-Represented on All-MCCAA List
DONALDSON, IN – The Ancilla College men’s soccer program placed six of its athletes on the 2014 All-MCCAA Men’s Soccer Team.
After the completion of the program’s most successful season since 2007, six Chargers were named to the 2014 All-MCCAA Men’s Soccer team; which included Dayle Robertson, Andrew Smith and Antonio Luna being named to the First Team All-MCCAA list. Freshman Dayle Robertson scored thirty goals for the Chargers this season to cap a dominant first year. Head coach Adam Hall compliments Robertson on his great season accomplishments, “He can play right at the top with that type of form, most importantly he is a good character and great trainer.” Sophomore Andrew Smith has had an enormous impact on the program in his two years as a Charger. Hall comments, “Smith has been a stalwart for our program during my two years here. He cares deeply about winning, and that has had an enormous impact on our whole program. He has led the line tremendously and we will miss his leadership.” Freshman Antonio Luna, whose lone goal assisted in Ancilla’s victory over Cincinnati State in the semi-finals, concluded the list of first team all-conference Chargers. Hall describes Luna as a very composed player who has played a massive part in the success the team experienced this season; “He is a top student and hard worker, which is something I admire.”
Receiving Honorable Mention All-MCCAA was freshman Kevin Bonilla. Hall felt Bonilla tended to go unnoticed, “He is small, but I like to think of him as a bulldog on the field; he is strong and fearless.” Also joining Bonilla on the honorable mention list were teammates Alex Engle and goalkeeper Max Lopez. Engle, who posted the youngest age for his team, contributed to an outstanding freshman season in his coach’s eyes, “He is very technical and has chipped in with some very important goals for us this year.” Completing the list is freshman goalkeeper, Max Lopez. Hall describes Lopez as a very consistent performer for the team this season, “He is a smart kid and is a great example for his teammates with his character.”
The Chargers registered a 16-4-1 record for their 2014 campaign, which equates to the best overall record for the program since 2007, but also was a key piece to their best Region XII tournament finish since that time.
