Ancilla announces the Head Coach & Assistant Coach of the Year

The Ancilla College Athletic Department names the recipients of the 2014-2015 male and female Athlete of the Year, Head Coach of the Year and Assistant Coach of the Year.

The male athlete of the year award was received by Charger men’s basketball player, Juwan Johnson. Head men’s basketball coach Aaron Butcher had the following to say about Juwan, “Juwan had a great two years here at Ancilla. Not only did he set the all-time scoring record at the school, he was a two time captain and led the team to the second most wins in school history this past season. Juwan was a solid student, and someone whose work ethic put him in a great position both academically and athletically. We look forward to following the rest of his career at Tiffin University.”

Khadijah Moore a first year women’s basketball player at Ancilla, was selected as the female athlete of the year. Moore’s coach Tom Robbins commented on her success, “Khadijah had a very decorated season by becoming the first ever All-American for the Women’s Basketball program as well as being named to numerous conference awards. She was the best player on the floor all season long and is set up for a very good sophomore season ahead.”

With every great athletic program comes an outstanding head coach leading the team to success. Ancilla College has nine of these head coaches on staff for their ten sports. From these nine coaches, one coach was recognized for their efforts. The 2014-2015 Head Coach of the Year award was received by Men’s Basketball Coach Aaron Butcher. “The quality of the head coaches on staff at Ancilla College is very high,” remarked Butcher. “To be recognized as Head Coach of the Year is a great honor. However, like all coach of the year awards, this award is a reflection on my staff, and my players. We are continuing to raise the bar both in terms of success on the court and in the classroom, and I look forward to continuing that growth in the program in coming years.”

Lastly, the Charger Athletic Department looked to recognize the Assistant Coach of the Year. This year’s Assistant Coach of the Year honor was awarded to Terry Coleman, Charger Men’s Baseball Assistant Coach. “This award is well deserved,” said Ancilla Baseball Head Coach Joe Yonto. “Terry is a hard worker, very knowledgeable and loyal to the Charger Baseball program. Even more than that, Terry is always looking out for the Ancilla College Athletic Department as a whole.”

Ancilla College Athletic Director, Gene Reese commented on all who were recognized, “I am proud of the quality of the coaches and student/athletes we have at Ancilla College. Each individual receiving an award were tops in their coaching area or sport.”
