DONALDSON, IN – The Lady Charger soccer team faced two tough losses over the weekend against Cincinnati State Technical and Community College, 0-7, and Owens Community College, 0-7.
The Ancilla team played back to back days Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday, the Chargers took on the Surge from Cincinnati. Cincinnati was able to start the game off strong, scoring less than 10 minutes into the game and earning 25 shots to the Chargers four for the overall game.
Sunday’s match against Owens Community College was “One of our best games to date,” said Coach Crew. In the first half, Ancilla was hard to break down making it difficult for Owens to score and helping to keep a 1-0 deficit at half time. However, Owens was able to use their depth and quality combined with the Charger’s limited numbers to overcome them in the second half.
Coach Crew commented on his team’s weekend performance, “I was very proud of our team this weekend. It is difficult for any team at any level to play on back to back days. We played back to back days with 12 players. Our team gave a herculean effort.”
“The score lines are not what we want, but we see improvements every game,” commented Crew. “We will continue to work hard and focus on the process. The girls truly gave their very best this weekend.”
The team will play home on Wednesday, September 16th against conference rivals Jackson College. Game time is set for 4:00p.m.
Ancilla Boys Soccer earn a split over the weekend
DONALDSON, IN – Charger soccer had a split weekend at home grabbing a win, Friday, in overtime against Owens Community College, 1-0, and losing by one on Saturday, to Cincinnati Technical and Community College, 2-3.
Ancilla played an exciting game Friday against Owens Community College holding a 0-0 game through both halves. The game then proceeded into a 10 minute overtime where Charger freshman Josh Logan from Manchester England, shot the game winning goal for the Chargers.
“It was a hard fought game by both sides,” remarked Ancilla coach Dave Jacobs. “We had many chances to score in regulation 17 shots to seven. We missed five chances in the final 15 minutes. In overtime, our guys found a way to get it done. Great teams find a way to grind out wins. This game was a great example of that. The team played well but we couldn’t find the goal until an Owen’s player was red carded in the first sudden death overtime. On the very next play, we played a ball into the box and Josh Logan was in the right place at the right time.”
On Saturday, the Chargers took on #11 ranked Cincinnati State where they saw and unfortunate loss, 2-3. The Chargers scored the first goal of the game to leave the first half with a 1-0 lead. Cincinnati State was then able to score three goals in the second half and the Chargers had to climb back into the game with a goal in the 89th minute, but unfortunately it was not enough to capture the win. Romario Piggott, from Panama City, scored first for Ancilla with an Assist from Brampton, Canada native Khalil Williams. Williams then shot one in, late in the second half, with an assist from freshman Moustapha Gueye. Sophomore, goalkeeper Samuel (Max) Lopez had 8 saves on the day for the Chargers.
“We made a lot of mistakes in the second half and that cost us,” commented Jacobs. “The mistakes are fixable and we will grow as a team after that tough loss. We will see Cincinnati state again and the whole team will be looking forward to it.”
The Chargers will be on the road Wendesday, September 16th as they take on conference rivals Jackson College. They team will return home on Friday, September 25th to face off against Cuyahoga Community College.
