Charger Women’s Basketball Capture Back to Back Victories
DONALDSON, IN – Ancilla Women’s Basketball went 2-0 in weekend action capturing wins over Indiana Tech JV on Friday, 66-51 and Morton College on Saturday, 72-57.
On Friday, the Lady Chargers faced off against Indiana Tech JV. Shelle Daniels led the charge for Ancilla scoring 20 points and pulling down 11 rebounds. Shae Daniels added 12 points and 12 rebounds, and Quaynika Merriweather contributed 12 points for Ancilla.
“Our defense was on task in the first quarter which resulted in us building a double digit lead, but after that quarter, we really started letting up on our intensity which led us to playing fairly even the rest of the way,” said Head Coach Tom Robbins. “I would have liked to have seen us continue our defensive dominance throughout the game. One player who was a big for us all night was Shae Daniels. She seemed to continually come up with big plays on both ends of the floor and her intensity never wavered. We really leaned on her to keep Indiana Tech at bay.”
The Chargers played game two of the weekend of Saturday against Morton College where they were able to take a 10 point lead heading into the locker rooms. In the second half, Ancilla was able to keep their intensity and capture the 72-57 victory.
Leading for Ancilla was freshman Shelle Daniels with 20 points and 13 rebounds. Quaynika Merriweather added 13 points and Daitriona Bonds put up 11.
“Our team encountered a lot of adversity today and answered the test. Our defense was very focused and on task throughout the entire game. Morton is a tough team with a lot of offensive weapons so we needed our defense to play the way it did every minute of the game. The quality of our opponent and the timing of the game made this a good test for us in the early part of our season and I felt our team passed with flying colors in terms of their commitment, toughness, and determination,” remarked Robbins.
Ancilla will be on the road Thursday, November 8th at Prairie State College. The team will return to play Oakton Community College on Saturday, December 10th at 3:00p.m.
