North Judson Gets Major Win Over Wheeler!
The defending State Champion North Judson Lady Bluejay volleyball team had their grit tested on Wednesday night, as they took on a very skilled and determined team in the Wheeler Lady Bearcats. In the end, it was the Lady ‘Jays who came out on top winning 3-1 (25-21, 21-25, 25-18, 27-25).
Head Coach Madi Fingerhut was very happy with the win, “I really loved how we stayed aggressive on every single play”, Fingerhut said. “In our gym we have a ‘no free-ball’ rule, and I thought that they executed that rule very very well.”
Although the Lady Jays found themselves with their backs against the wall multiple times throughout the evening, the hard-nosed, never say die attitude that won North Judson a State Title a year ago took over, and the Jays left their home court with nothing but smiles and enthusiasm!
Abby Chambers and Lilly Frasure led the aggressive Jays with 12 kills a piece, on a night that saw momentum swing back and forth non-stop throughout the evening. “We knew coming in that they were a pretty good team all-around” Frasure said. “They were good defensively, and we just wanted to come in and start the season out right”.
“We were expecting them to be a very good defensive team” Chambers said. “We knew we needed to put the ball away and serve them tough”.
Alexi Harper and Tabitha Pop were on point with their serves, as they tallied 5 and 4 aces respectively. Pop also led the team in assists as she accounted for 28 of the team’s 31. Teammate Delaney Martin demonstrated her athleticism time and time again throughout the evening, as she was policing the net effectively, logging 8 of the team’s 15 total blocks.
The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. The journey of back-to-back State Championships begins with a single win. The 2019-2020 North Judson Lady Bluejays are hungry, and there is only one thing that will satisfy their appetite!
