Knox Earns Road Win Against Oregon-Davis
The Knox Lady Redskins had a tall order to fill as they went across Starke County to take on the Oregon-Davis Lady Bobcats. It was a matchup that both programs felt they could take advantage of, which led to an extremely exciting and competitive evening of local high school volleyball!
In the first two games, the Lady Redskins were able to take care of business against the Lady ‘Cats, as they came away with wins, 25-14 and 25-12. The Bobcats came alive in the third game as they were able to gain their focus, and edge out the Redskins 26-24, in a game that had the fans on the edge of their seats, living and dying with each serve as the game continued on. The Redskins, however, were too much for the Bobcats in the end, as a steady dose of Nicholle Vandy, Joie Grenner, Megan Bolen, and Emma Binkley gave a steady barrage of kills, aces, and assists.
Senior Nichole Vandy led the ‘Skins with 11 kills on the night, while fellow Senior Joie Grenner added 10 kills of her own, to go along with 7 aces. Junior Emma Binkley proved to be in the right place at the right time throughout the course of the evening, as she led her Lady Redskins in assists with 37. Sophomore Megan Bolen was a force at the net all night for Knox as she was able to add 9 kills of her own.
“I think we finally started getting everyone on the team to play together” Knox Head Coach Tammy Dearth said following the win. “We ended up getting a lot of good passes, a lot of good assists, and a lot of good kills tonight”.
“Overall, as a team I was impressed with all of them” Dearth continued. “I thought Joie Grenner had a great evening, Brianna Korcha just continues to improve for us, Emma Binkley our setter, and Jayla Williams just did a great job, and Cholle Vandy, she just really came to town. She’s really been bringing it on the last few matches”.
Oregon-Davis Head Coach Stephanie Campbell was still able to find the positives despite the loss. “Third and fourth match we decided to finally play as a team and stop arguing and getting down on each other. We had Katelyn Sauer literally everywhere” Campbell said. “When we block we need to try to get better at getting the shanks”.
The Lady Redskins were all, but skipping out of the locker room after the win. “I think the biggest key to our win was us coming together as a team” Senior Nicholle Vandy said. “I think sometimes some of us are on and some of us are off, but we really worked together to make up for the girls who might have had a bad night tonight”.
In the Junior Varsity match, the Lady Bobcats got a hard fought 2-1 win over Knox.
