Warriors Fall To Rochester On Emotional Night
The Winamac Lady Warriors began the night with great optimism as they hosted the Rochester Lady Zebras. The night was a major deal for the entire Winamac community, not just because it was Senior Night, but also for a much bigger reason. Winamac was raising funds for one of their own as 2018 graduate Haley Fox is battling for her life, having been diagnosed with Philadelphia Chromosome Positive Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (PH+ALL). In honor of Fox, the Lady Warriors donned pink jerseys to show their support during the “Block Out” game.
While the Lady Zebras showed great respect for the Winamac cause, they were not as kind on the scoreboard as they were able to walk away from Winamac High School with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-19) win over the host Warriors.
“We definitely worked all week on blocking”, Winamac Head Coach Heather Kasten said after the game. “We knew they had some big hitters, so I like that we had a lot more touches at the net than in recent games”.
Kasten was able to pick out areas that she feels her team needs to work on in order to be successful down the road, “Definitely more on our defense. Just keeping that ball in play on serve receive” she continued. “We tend to lose the ball when we’re receiving, so that’s going to be something we put into practice this week”.
The Lady Warriors will be back in action on Monday when they travel to North Judson to take on the Lady Bluejays!
