Falcons Wrestling Looking To Soar This Season

As is the case with every season, the John Glenn Falcons are very excited about this wrestling season, and are eager to see their hard work pay off early in the year. Although the Falcons are a fairly young team, they are not lacking in the motivational department, and have some high quality leadership within the team.

“We have some upperclassmen who are big contributors to our team” said Head Coach Andy King. “Junior 106lb Nathan May, he’s a returning Regional qualifier for us” said King. “He had over twenty wins for us last year”.

King then went to the other end of the weight spectrum in talking about who else he will be leaning on throughout the season, as the Falcons are feeling very confident in their heavyweight wrestler.

“Our heavyweight at 285lbs Brody Miskimon, was a Semistate qualifier, twenty-eight wins” King continued, “so we’re expecting a lot out of those guys”.

Coach King is pleased with how the early part of the season has gone thus far for his Falcons.

“We opened up the season at South Bend Clay. We won the Super Dual” King said. “Went 5-0 that weekend and saw some good things out of the kids”.

The Falcon wrestlers have been working hard in the early part of the season, preparing for the long grind leading up to postseason competition.

“Practices so far have been pretty intense” veteran Nathan May said about the start of the season. “We’ve had a good amount of kids show up, and everyone that shows up puts in work. It’s been great!”.

“What I’ve been noticing out of some of our team is a lot of guys are starting to commit more” veteran Aaron Sherman said. “I hope that together we can really come out and show everybody what John Glenn is about”.

Heavyweight Brody Miskimon is holding himself to a very high level as far as expectations go. Being unable to finish the way he wanted to the past three season, Miskimon is as motivated as anyone can ask an individual to be.

“I have really high expectations for myself” Miskimon said. “Not really going as far as I wanted to the past three years. Making it to Semi-State last year, so of course State is always the goal. So just excited to get out here, give it my all, and hopefully get down to state”.

At the South Bend Clay Super Dual on November 30th, the Falcons defeated South Bend Clay 54-24, Culver 51-24, St. Joe 60-18, South Bend Washington 48-36, and Westview 66-18 to win the Dual. Nathan May, Adam Martin, Sam Strange, Johnny Drews, Jamie Gierlowski, and Brody Miskimon were all crowned individual champions in their respective weight classes.
