Redskins Climb Over .500 After Home Win!
With South Central anticipating the Lady Satellites’ appearance in Semi-State action on Saturday, the boys game between Knox and South Central was moved to Friday night, so all fans of the Satellites would be able to attend both games. The Knox Redskins were more than willing to accept the challenge a day earlier, as they were hungry to get back over .500 on the season.
The Redskins would go on the attack right out of the blocks, wasting very little time as they would explode for 19 first quarter points to take an early 19-5 lead. The early lead and momentum was due in large part to the play of Sophomore forward Kole McIntire, who had a very “no nonsense” approach to the game. The Sophomore Sensation would pile up 17 of his game-high 21 points in the first half, knocking down shots from underneath the hoop, at the free throw line, as well as behind the arc. It would be in large part to the effort of McIntire that the Redskins would hold a comfortable 33-15 lead at the half.
The second half would see much more balance on the offensive end of the floor for Knox, with Junior guard Gunner Wagner leading the way in the scoring category, putting up 8 of his 12 points in the final two quarters. Perhaps the most impressive statistic in favor of the Redskins would come in the rebounding category, as Knox was able to out-rebound the extremely athletic Satellites 25-16 in the ballgame. The trio of Wagner, McIntire, and Junior Zac Rose would lead the way for Knox, as they all were able to pull down 6 rebounds apiece.
One of the biggest bright spots for South Central would come from behind the arc in the second half. The Satellites were able to knock down 3 of their 4 three-point shots in the final two quarters, with 6’3 Junior Trent Hudspeth hitting two. While the Redskins out-rebounded the Satellites in the game, it would be South Central’s 6’8 Junior Center Brendan Carr who would be the individual leader, pulling down 8 rebounds to go along with his 8 points in the game. Zack Christy would also be seen throughout the evening displaying his incredible athleticism on his way to a team-high 9 points in the ballgame. A major bright spot for Knox would come from Junior Ethan Wakal. The 5’10 forward was able to kick in 7 points, including one of the Redskins’ two made three-point shots, giving the Satellites yet another threat to worry about throughout the ballgame.
In the end, it would be Knox’s ability to rebound on both ends of the floor that would be the biggest difference, along with their balanced scoring attack. Kole McIntire would be named the Ashley Derrickson/Five Star Player of the Game on WKVI for his 21 point, 6 rebound performance, which included a perfect 4-4 at the free throw line in the Redskins’ tenth win of the year. Knox will be back in action on Saturday night when they play host to Wheeler, while South Central will be back at it on February 25th, when they travel to Washington Township.
