Argos’ Redinger Returns With A Bang

Forgive Argos High School girls basketball head coach Scott Jennings if he was grinning ear to ear as MAX 98.3 FM conducted its postgame interview.

You see his Dragons just got done beating visiting South Bend Career Academy 73-11 on Thursday night in a game that believe it or not was not even that close.

Sure the third-year Dragon boss was pleased with his team’s latest showing, but what had him really smiling was the return of junior guard Sam Redinger.

Redinger had been sidelined for more than a month after she broke her wrist in the loss to Triton.

Well, No. 10 sure made up for lost time.

She started slowly, scoring just two points in the opening quarter.

However, Redinger will never forget the second quarter she had.

Get this … she poured in an unbelievable 20 points in those eight minutes. Yes, that is not a misprint.

Redinger was absolutely unconscious from three-point land. She hit not one, not two, not three, not four, but five triples in just the second stanza.

Her shooting display was amazing in that frame, and all of her shots were nothing but net.

When Jennings took her out late in the second quarter, Redinger smiled and gave one of those looks to her teammates as if to say, ‘Everything I’m throwing up is going in.’

Redinger finished with a game-high and career-high 26 points.

Her teammates kept feeding her the basketball and she kept burying shot after shot as if she was in her driveway playing a game of Around The World.

Those of us that were in attendance were simply in awe of the shooting display Redinger put on.

She knocked down all seven of her shots in the second quarter to head into the locker room an astonishing 8-of-10 from the field.

During a 4:16 span in the second quarter, Redinger scored 20 straight points for the Dragons as they exploded out to a 43-3 lead.

Interestingly enough, she entered the contest shooting just 24 percent from the field.

Redinger’s backcourt mate, Bailey Binkley, was the story in the first quarter. The senior scored 10 of her dozen points in the opening eight minutes as she knocked down four two-point shots and a pair of free throws.

Binkley was also a pest defensively. She had more than half a dozen steals which led to lay up after lay up by No. 12.

Binkley and Redinger were two of four Dragons that scored in double figures against the Trailblazers. Joining them were seniors Bella Stults (13 points) and Emma Dunlap (12).

Argos, 5-5 overall, is back in action at 2 p.m. tomorrow at Elkhart Christian.
