Plymouth takes win over Valparaiso
PLYMOUTH — Plymouth hosted District-Ranked Valparaiso Monday night at Mary Beth Hunter Tennis Complex. After playing deep into the night, the Pilgrims finally came out with a nice 4-1 victory.
Two singles Tynley Gantz and three singles Izzie Wray won their matches in straight sets to put the Pilgrims up 2-0. One doubles Emma Jackson-Cassidy Riddle took the first set, but ultimately fell in three sets.
That left (after three hours of play) the doubles team of Lena Houin and Alivia Kizer battling in a close third set and one singles Annie Plothow having just split sets.
Lena and Alivia pulled out their final set 6-4 to secure the third team point, with Annie still playing in her third set.
After nearly four hours of play, Annie pulled out the final three games to take her third set 7-5 and finish off the 4-1 win.
“I’m very proud of the girls tonight,” said Plymouth coach Brad Haeck. “We talked about learning from the match on Saturday and I felt like we made some nice strides forward tonight. We dealt with adversity on several courts and responded well overall to those tough moments. It’s hard to replicate pressure situations, and I thought we competed better through those as well. Our doubles are starting to play more aggressive, which is also a positive.”
Plymouth will be at home Thursday against Chesterton.
