Purdue sophomore safety named 2nd-team All-American

It’s fair to say very few defensive players in Purdue Boilermaker football history have been showered with as many preseason accolades as sophomore safety Dillon Thieneman.

On Tuesday the 6-foot-, 207-pound Westfield, Ind., product was tabbed a second-team All-American by the Associated Press.

Thieneman becomes just the third Boilermaker defensive player to be named an All-American in the last half century joining Rod Woodson and Ryan Kerrigan.

Thieneman had a magnificent true freshman season, setting multiple Purdue freshman records including interceptions (6) and solo tackles (74) and earning recognition as one of the best players in the country regardless of class.

Following the 2023 season, he was named a third-team All-American.

Thieneman was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year after being one of just two freshmen since 2005 to record at least 100 tackles and five interceptions. Here is one of those picks – https://tinyurl.com/4jjhjbvf

His Boilermakers, who are looking to improve on a 4-8 season, kick off the 2024 season at noon ET Aug. 31 against Indiana State.
