Boilers drop to 13th in latest AP poll

Per usual we are enjoying some top-notch college basketball during the traditional Feast Week.

With so many marquee matchups taking place, movement within the Associated Press’ Top 25 poll can be expected and no doubt will take place.

This week’s poll, released on Monday, had Purdue falling from sixth to 13th after it lost at nationally ranked Marquette.

As a result of the win, Shaka Smart’s Marquette team moved up to No. 10.

Purdue has been ranked in 42 straight AP Top 25 polls, the sixth-longest active streak in the country and the third longest in school history.

The 5-1 Boilermakers, who have already faced two nationally ranked teams this season (Alabama at then-No. 2 was the other), will travel this week to San Diego where they’ll compete in the Rady Children’s Invitational.

Purdue meets 2024 Final Four participant North Carolina State (5-0 this season) on Thanksgiving Day and on Friday will meet either BYU (5-0) or No. 23 Ole Miss (5-0).

Kansas remains at No. 1.

UConn, the two-time defending national champion, was No. 2, but it got upset by unranked Memphis Monday in the Maui Invitational so they will likely drop in next week’s poll.

No. 3 is 5-0 Gonzaga.

Fourth-ranked Auburn improved to 5-0, too, rallying from an 18-point deficit to knock off No. 5 Iowa State Monday in Maui.

In addition to Purdue, Indiana (No. 14) and Wisconsin (No. 15) are the only other ranked Big Ten teams.

The 7-0 Badgers have been one of the nation’s biggest surprises thus far. Earlier this season they knocked off then-No. 9 Arizona in the Kohl Center.

With this being Feast Week one thing is certain … there will be a bevy of top matchups.

Look at some of the marquee showdowns tonight: No. 6 Houston faces No. 9 Alabama, No. 11 Duke meets No. 1 Kansas and No. 4 Auburn faces No. 12 North Carolina.

There are several holiday tournaments ongoing so stay tuned for more terrific matchups as the week progresses.

No wonder this week is one of college basketball fans’ favorite times of the year.
