College football’s top 5 remains unchanged

As we enter the final two weeks of college football’s regular season, there wasn’t any change to the Associated Press’ top five from last week to this week.

Unbeaten and top-ranked Oregon survived a scare in Madison, Ohio State and Penn State rolled, and Texas notched a double-digit road win against Arkansas. Indiana was idle.

The 11-0 Ducks will now enjoy a bye week as they prep for a home game against Washington on Nov. 30.

Meanwhile, the biggest game in college football perhaps of the season will take place Saturday at noon in Columbus as second-ranked Ohio State (9-1) will entertain 10-0 Indiana. This will be the Hoosiers’ first game against a ranked opponent this season and their second road game since the first week of October.

Usually at this time of the year the Buckeyes are on cruise control as they prepare for their regular-season finale against Michigan, but not this time around. Ohio State, which will host the Wolverines Nov. 30, is a 12 1/2-point favorite over the Hoosiers, who finished the season at home against Purdue in the battle for the Old Oaken Bucket.

No. 3 Texas will host 4-6 Kentucky Saturday and fourth-ranked Penn State travels to 6-4 Minnesota, which could be a very interesting game, one that could be an upset special potentially.

Notre Dame moved up to No. 6 with its win over Virginia in its home finale. Now, the Irish will face 10-0 and No. 18 Army Saturday night in Yankee Stadium.

Rounding out the top 10 are four SEC teams – No. 7 Alabama followed by Georgia, Ole Miss and Tennessee.

None of those four SEC teams should be overly worried about their matchups this week although Ole Miss does visit the Swamp. The 5-5 Gators are coming off a big home upset over LSU.

BYU was previously undefeated until it lost at Kansas. The Cougars fell to No. 14.

Miami is No. 11 and host 4-6 Wake Forest, before finishing at Syracuse next week, while Boise State is 12th. The Broncos go to 2-8 Wyoming this week before finishing at home against 4-6 Oregon State.

The conference championship games will take place the weekend after Thanksgiving and on that Sunday (Dec. 8) the 12-team College Football Playoff Bracket will be revealed.
