Bremen takes big win over Glenn

WALKERTON — It was rough going early but Bremen righted the ship and came away a 59-39 winner over Glenn.
The Falcons drew blood first and for most of the first quarter had the Lions off guard, but a big second quarter started Bremen on the way to their second win of the season.
“It didn’t begin or end the way I wanted it to,” said Bremen coach Matt Miller. “There were some things in our scouting report that I wanted to button down.”
The Lions buttoned them down in the middle and got some great play from senior Silas Laidig as he ended the night with 19 points and three steals hitting two crucial threes in the first half to start the ball rolling.
“He’s the heartbeat of this team,” said Miller. “He’s a leader and he is one of those guys who just wants to win.”
Along with Laidig Chase Divine had his normal production with 24 points and four rebounds and Tyrus Graverson had seven but made a huge difference on the defensive end for the Lions.
“They were very good defensively, and when that happens, we are going to have some growing pains,” said Glenn coach John Dupont. “We talked about it in our film session that we couldn’t let Divine, Laidig, and Graverson have their averages, and they all had their averages. We talk about it all the time that the first four minutes in the third quarter are the most important part of the game.”
That was the part of the game the Lions were able to take control of the game and keep the Falcons on the defensive. It was in that frame that Laidig came alive for 15 of his 19 taking over the post.
Glenn had their share of heroes as Jude Hicks came up big with 14 points, Joe Divine had four assists with five points and Matt Pearish added 6 with vour rebounds. Kadyn Land had four assist and four rebounds to go with four points.
“Jude Hicks played a wonderful game tonight,” said Dupont. “He was able to get to the basket. We have a bit of a problem on defense. We are struggling to keep up the pace with the varsity level, but we are getting there.”
Bremen is 2-1 with a game at Westville on Tuesday. Glenn is 1-2 and will be on the road Tuesday at West Central.
