Bremen’s Shumaker headed to state wrestling finals

GOSHEN — Two Lady Lions were in action Friday at Goshen Regionals with a chance to make history and punch their ticket to the state finals. One Lady Lion was able to punch her ticket to the first-ever IHSAA Girls Wrestling State Finals next Friday at the Indiana State Fairgrounds.
125- McKenzie Scott ultimately came up short losing to the girl who placed 3rd in their weight class. Kenzie has had an impressive first season and peaked at the right time during the state tournament.
145- Makenzie Shumaker looked to punch her ticket to get back to state. Shumaker won her first round by pinning a girl from Valpo High School. Makenzie then faced the number 12 ranked girl from Crown Point. Makenzie pinned the Crown Point girl which punched her ticket to the first-ever IHSAA Girls Wrestling State Finals. In her semi-final match she pinned a girl from Wheeler. In the championship match, Makenzie faced the number one ranking girl in the state where she came up short.
Makenzie Shumaker will be the first Bremen Girl wrestler to make it to the IHSAA Girls Wrestling State Finals. Congratulations Makenzie.
She will be in action next Friday at Indiana State Fairgrounds (Corteva Coliseum).
