MUAC men head to postseason with win
PLYMOUTH — The Marian University Ancilla Men’s Basketball team used a 93-91 win Tuesday night against Kellogg Community College to finish second in the MCCAA Western Division, earning them a trip to the postseason next week. The Chargers finished 21-8 overall in the regular season and 10-4 in Western Division play this year, plus they will host their first playoff game next week.
The Chargers were in control of the game shortly after halftime, leading by as many as 23 points midway through the second half. But the Bruins put up quite the fight and didn’t back down, narrowing the gap late and even tying it. Luckily for Marian Ancilla, they shot it extremely well from the field, including a 13-for-25 (52.0%) performance from deep.
Freshman guard Jordan Woods once again led the Chargers, posting another triple-double, scoring 17 points, handing out 12 assists, and pulling down 10 rebounds. Sophomore forward Jayden Sanders led all Chargers with 19 points, while guard Kenneth Grant (5-6 from 3-point range) added 15 points off the bench. Sophomores Dante Porch (13 points) and Tyshaun Grundy (11 points) each scored in double figures as well. Marian Ancilla assisted on 30 of their 35 made baskets.
Marian Ancilla moves on to postseason play, where they will take part in the NJCAA Division II Great Lakes District A Championship. Their first playoff game will be a home matchup with Western Division rival Grand Rapids. That game will take place on Tuesday, March 4th, at 7:30 p.m. at the LifePlex. With a win, the Chargers would advance to Thursday, March 6th, and that game would be played at Mott Community College in Flint, Michigan, at 4 p.m.
