Plymouth boys have team record sectional finish
WARSAW — Plymouth’s boys’ swim team had a record-breaking performance in sectional action Saturday.
The 16 boys compiled a program record-high 236 points to earn a 3rd place finish. This is the highest finish for Plymouth Boys since 2009 when Plymouth was the Sectional runner-up with 223 points. Plymouth has only earned a 3rd place finish one other time: in 2003 they scored 163 points. On the day, Plymouth had 21 lifetime best times.
The big news of the day came in the second to last event when Joseph Stauffer capped off an illustrious career by breaking the 100 breaststroke record last set in 1997. For all swimmers, breaking a minute in a 100 is a notable accomplishment. Breaking a minute in the slowest stroke is an even more incredible feat. The former PHS breaststroke record was 59.99.

“Today was an incredible accomplishment for Plymouth Boys Swimming and Diving,” said Coach Haley Stegelmann. “As coaches, we hope athletes get to see the benefits of hard work and perseverance. That was on full display as we saw highlight after highlight each time they hit the water.”
I am especially proud of our 5 seniors,” she said. “They ended their careers today with all 10 of their individual races being lifetime best times. Under their leadership, our program set a new record for points scored in the sectional, as well as 11 wins on the season. Thank you, Matthew Finney, Aiden Landis, Kyle Rumpler, Leo Sickmiller, and Joseph Stauffer. Many say you need to leave a place better than you found it. Our program is definitely in a great place since you first began your careers back in 2021.”
