Record-breaking day for PHS girls swim, Hendricks to state

WARSAW — Plymouth had a record-breaking performance in Sectional final action on Saturday.
The meet kicked off with the Medley Relay breaking a school record last set in 2008. Entering with a seed time of 1:56.04, the team of Taylor Schadek, Vivian Wheeler, Kathryn Morrison, and Siri Hendricks dropped down to 1:53.03 and established themselves as the fastest team in school history.
Siri kept the excitement rolling as she won the 50 free and became the first Plymouth athlete to punch her ticket to state since 2011.
During the diving break, Carmen Garcia finished with an impressive 3rd place and earned her way to Regionals on Tuesday in Valparaiso.
The records weren’t finished as the same four girls swam an impressive 1:42.99 in the 200 Free Relay to break another school record and miss a state appearance by just .03 seconds.
The Plymouth team set a new program record for points scored in a Sectional with 320 points.
Coach Haley Stegelmann was also awarded the 2025 Sectional Coach of the Year.
“Today was full of excitement and heartache,” said Stegelman. “We are so proud of our team for breaking 17-year-old school records, but we also feel the sting of missing state by just .03 of a second. It is incredibly difficult to advance from Sectionals straight to State. Although our times are faster than some of the other Sectional Champions, I am grateful we can hang our heads high, knowing we have two new school records. We have had a fantastic group of Seniors that have contributed greatly to our program. We will miss them dearly next season.”
