Chargers fall to three top 25 opponents
PORT HURON — Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, they participated in the Thumbcoast Tipoff Classic at St. Clair County Community College in Port Huron, Michigan. During their trip, they played NJCAA Division II #1 Parkland College on Thursday, #22 Bryant and Stratton College (WI) on Friday, and #14 Mid Michigan College on Saturday.
MUAC vs. #1 Parkland (L 91-78): The Chargers trailed by just 6 points at the midpoint, but the undersized lineup again struggled with rebounding, as Parkland had a 52-32 advantage on the boards. Marian Ancilla did have 5 players score in double figures, with Sophomore guard Kenneth Grant leading the way with 21 points on 7-15 shooting from long range. Freshman Kayden English added 15 points, Freshman Cristian Webster added 14 points, Freshman Shawn Donaldson had 12 points, and Freshman Omari Evans chipped in 10 points. English also posted a double-double, as he added 10 rebounds to the effort.
MUAC vs. #22 Bryant and Stratton (L 92-69): Bryant and Stratton played stingy defense, allowing just 33 first-half points, collecting 31 defensive rebounds, stealing the ball 10 times, and blocking 9 shots on the afternoon. Freshmen Kayden English and Omari Evans came off the bench to lead the Chargers with 18 points apiece. Freshman forward A’Marien Page added 11 points and 8 rebounds, 4 of which came at the offensive end of the floor.
MUAC vs. #14 Mid Michigan (L 105-75): Marian Ancilla bounced back a little offensively and played fairly well. Unfortunately, Mid Michigan shot it extremely well from the field and made it difficult to keep pace throughout the contest. However, the Chargers did manage 5 players in double-digits once again. Freshman Omari Evans topped the Chargers with 16 points, while Sophomore Kenneth Grant and Freshman Shawn Donaldson tossed in 15 points apiece. Grant and Donaldson were also responsible for 8 of the team’s 9 made 3-point attempts. Freshmen Kayden English (12 points, 8 rebounds) and A’Marien Page (10 points, 7 rebounds) were solid up front for Marian Ancilla.
The Chargers return to action this Wednesday as part of a double-header with the Women’s team, when both squads host Edison State. The Women’s game begins at Noon with the Men’s game to follow.
