LaVille bested by Manchester

MANCHESTER – LaVille traveled to defending 2A state champion Manchester for a non-conference high school basketball game on Tuesday.
The Lancers battled, but a hot start by the Squires, fueled by Wyatt Schroll’s 39 points, led MHS to a 66-51 victory.
Schroll’s field goal shooting was dialed in, especially in the first quarter.
The LHS defense tried to move the 5-foot-10-inch guard away from the basket, but the sophomore was just as effective, if not more, the further he got from the basket.
“If we could have contained Schroll a little bit more, as he had 39 points, and valued the basketball, then we could have stayed in the game and made it more competitive,” said LaVille coach Michael Edison.
Behind Schroll’s 14 first-quarter points, the Squires took an 18-7 lead. The shooting barrage continued in the second quarter as the hosts knocked down three more triples and increased the lead to 38-19.
“I felt we allowed Manchester to get too many good looks in the first quarter,” noted the Lancer boss. “Schroll had 5 three pointers in the first quarter, and that, along with too many turnovers, was the key to the game. Even in the 4th quarter, we had chances to cut it to 10 points to give ourselves a chance, and we couldn’t do it.”
Edison’s crew chased a 55-35 deficit going into the final eight minutes, but made a valiant comeback that fell short.
“The one good thing about the game is that we didn’t give up,” concluded Edison. “We kept battling throughout the entire contest.”
This was LaVille’s first visit to Manchester High School Gymnasium, and the Lancers just could not get on track.
LHS was led by Lance Edison with 24 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 steals. Braedyn Foster had 8 points, 12 rebounds, and 4 steals.
Coach Michael Edison’s club moves to 3-3 overall and will travel to North Judson-San Pierre on December 20. The junior varsity is scheduled for a 6 pm tip, with the varsity game to follow.
