Plymouth hires Shaffer to head Rockie football

PLYMOUTH — The Plymouth School Board approved the hiring of Coach Ron Shaffer as the new Head Football Coach of the Plymouth Rockies.
Shaffer brings a wealth of experience and proven success to Plymouth, with 26 years as an assistant coach at Griffith, North Miami, Maconaquah, and Lewis Cass. During his time at Lewis Cass, he was part of a coaching staff that captured multiple sectional and regional championships, helping build consistently competitive programs.
Most recently, Coach Shaffer served as Head Coach at Rochester High School for five seasons, where he took over a program coming off an 0–8 season and engineered a remarkable turnaround. Under his leadership, Rochester compiled a 39–13 overall record and won two conference championships during his tenure.
The Zebras are coming off a dominant 2025 campaign that included an 8–0 undefeated Three Rivers Conference championship, outscoring conference opponents 377–34 in TRC play.
“What excites me about Plymouth Football is the culture and commitment to continued development of the program,” said Coach Shaffer. “The opportunity to coach in the Northern Lakes Conference presents a great challenge. There is strong football played throughout the conference, and I’m looking forward to the challenge.”
Plymouth Athletic Director Josh Troyer stated, “We are excited to bring someone in with the track record of Coach Shaffer. We believe in Coach Shaffer’s vision and look forward to the future under his leadership.”
Coach Shaffer will begin as the football coach immediately as he prepares the Rockies for the upcoming season and the challenges of competing in the Northern Lakes Conference.
