Triton girls wrestlers third at Plymouth sectional
PLYMOUTH — The Triton Lady Trojans delivered an impressive performance Saturday at the IHSAA Girls Wrestling Sectional in Plymouth, sending the majority of their varsity lineup on to regional competition and proving they can compete with the state’s top programs.
Out of 11 varsity wrestlers, Triton qualified eight for next weekend’s Regionals, highlighted by a sectional championship from freshman Kensie Schuh at 110 pounds. Schuh dominated her bracket to claim first place and Triton’s lone sectional title of the day.
The Lady Trojans also earned two runner-up finishes. Senior Andrea Ford placed second at 120 pounds, while senior Rilee Bemish secured a second-place finish at 135 pounds, both advancing comfortably to the next round.
Additional regional qualifiers came through strong third- and fourth-place finishes, which also automatically advance. Senior Macy Carson placed third at 105 pounds, and freshman Saran Jones earned third at 235 pounds. Fourth-place finishes were recorded by freshman Brianna Lockhart at 130 pounds, senior Bailey Nicely at 140 pounds, and senior Jazmin Lemler at 170 pounds.
Freshman Kailyn Schuh narrowly missed qualification, placing fifth at 100 pounds and earning the role of first alternate. Senior Emma Tobolski placed sixth at 145 pounds and will serve as the second alternate.
Triton finished third overall out of 17 schools represented at the sectional, trailing only Penn and host Plymouth. Warsaw and Mishawaka rounded out the top five with fourth- and fifth-place finishes, respectively.
