Boys BB Recap: Glenn escapes Laville to remain unbeaten at home
On paper, the John Glenn Falcons and the Laville Lancers were pretty even in the statistical department. Execution made the difference as Glenn held off a scrappy Lancer squad 52-44.
Glenn’s success came off the strength of Levi Schleg, who scored 16 points. The Falcons grabbed the lead against Laville on a two-pointer from Jake Strong in the second period and held on.
The Falcons put points on the board early, claiming a 23-17 lead at the half. The Falcons secured their lead in the final quarter, putting up 19 points.
Schleg set the pace for the Falcons’s offense, going 8-for-8 (100%) from the field.
Calvin Kretchmer hit double digits, scoring 12 points for the Falcons (2-for-6). Also contributing for the Falcons were Alec Runyan (9 points, 3 rebounds, 1 block), Strong (8 points, 5 rebounds), Zach Combes (4 points, 1 rebound, 1 steal, 1 block) and Joel Hadden (3 points). Kretchmer was a big defensive contributor as well, racking up five rebounds and one block.
Laville’s Issac Eash nailed down 14 points including 4/8 from outside the arc. Blake Berger added 13 points, despite shooting 3/12 from the floor. One key stat that hurt the Lancers came under the turnover category where they had 9. Most of them came at crucial parts of the ballgame.
The Falcons finished the game with 24 rebounds (four offensive/20 defensive), three blocks and five steals. Laville finished with 22 rebounds (10 offensive/12 defensive), 1 block and 2 steals.
Glenn will have Christmas break off and get ready for a January 6th meeting with Rochester. Laville will play December 27th in the Washington Twp. Tourny.
