FROSH FOOTBALL GAINS LAST SECOND WIN
The football playing freshmen Rockie football team won a stunner Wednesday night at The Rockpile. The young Rockies defeated East Noble 20-14 on the last play of the game.
The Rockies scored first in the see saw affair as Donny Poczik scored from 25 yards out in the first half. The extra point was no good, and the Rockies lead 6-0 early in the second quarter.
Before halftime, East Noble would also score and miss their extra point. The half ended in a 6-6 tie.
After a scoreless third quarter, East Noble opened the fourth quarter with a TD. The 2 point conversion was good, and East Noble lead 14-6.
The Rockies started a drive after that and ended up tying the score. A Jake Reichard one yard plunge made it 14-12, and Poczik ran the 2 point conversion in and we were tied at 14-14 with three minutes remaining in the contest.
East Noble’s last effort to score was stopped by a Rockie interception at the East Noble 35 yard line with one second remaining in the contest.
The Rockies called for the “Hail Mary” play in the end zone. With the snap being made to Rockie QB Jake Reichard, and the buzzer going off behind him, a deep pass was made down the middle of the field into the end zone. Rockie receiver Teddy Pratt leaped above the defenders hauling down the winning score making the Rockies victorious for the first time this year 20-14.
The win moves their record to 1-1 on the year. Next up the Rockies will host South Bend Riley next Thursday night starting at 5:30.
