Warriors Make It A Split With Bobcats

The Winamac Warriors (6-7) would not be foolish enough to underestimate the Oregon-Davis Bobcats (1-9) on Saturday night, as the Bobcats have been right on the brink of turning things around under first year Head Coach Larry Sennert.

Not surprisingly, the Warriors would have a huge explosion in the scoring category from Senior Will Larkin. Larkin would look early and often to get points on the board for his Warriors, as he would account for 62% of his team’s first half scoring, putting up 18 of their 29 in the first two quarters. It would be a non-stop barrage from the 6’0 Senior, who would be seen scoring in all aspects of the game, inside, outside, back to the basket, at the free throw line, and even a fade-a-way or two. The Bobcats would struggle throughout the night to slow Larkin down, despite challenging many of his shots with hard closeouts, and hands in his face all night long.

As the second half rolled around, Larkin would not allow the intermission to slow him down. The energy-filled guard would continue to find scoring opportunities from inside and out, as he dropped another 14 points in the second half for his Warriors. 26 of Larkin’s game-high 32 points would come from the free-throw line or further out during the game, as he would knock down 14-16 at the line, while also hitting on four 3-pointers in the win. The Senior’s effort would not stop at the scoring column. Larkin would be seen throughout the evening chasing down rebounds, while also picking the pockets of the Bobcats. He would have a game-high 5 steals, while also tying for the team lead in rebounds, along with teammate Russell Compton, as the two both pulled down 8 rebounds in the win.

The second half would also see a scoring explosion from Oregon-Davis’ Cameron Taylor, who, after being held scoreless in the first half, put up an impressive 12 points in the second half, which gave him a team high in scoring. Garrett Weil and Jared Bryan would lead the Bobcats in rebounding, as they each pulled down 7 rebounds in the effort, with Weil also leading the team in steals with 2.

Not surprisingly, the Ashley Derrickson/Five Star Player of the Game on WKVI would go to Will Larkin, who ended the game with 32 points, to go along with 8 rebounds, and 5 steals.

The Warriors will be back in action on the 24th, when they play host to Caston, while the Bobcats get back to work on the 21st, when they will take on John Glenn in the first round of the Teachers Credit Union Bi-County Tournament, a game that will be aired on WKVI.
