Winamac Volleyball Comes Out Even at Tomahawk Tourney
The Winamac Lady Warriors went 2-2 on the day at the Tomahawk Tournament at North Miami High School. In game #1 against Wabash, the Lady Warriors found themselves behind the 8-ball against a very skilled opponent, ultimately losing 2-1 (15-25, 25-17, 8-15). “Serving errors, and slow transitioning to defense hurt us” Head Coach Heather Kasten said. “Wabash found our holes, and we couldn’t pick up on the tips”.
The Lady Warriors were able to rebound in the second game, as they handled Peru 2-0 (25-19 and 25-20). “Serving was improved” Kasten said of her team’s victory. “Smart plays by Becca Biros and Taylor Jennings helped turn our momentum around at crucial points in each game”.
The rollercoaster ride for the Lady Warriors continued into the third game as the maroon and white fell to Rochester in two very closely contested games (23-25 and 20-25). “A completely beatable team, but communication was lacking on our side” Kasten said. “Playing safe instead of swinging hard at the ball gave Rochester the advantage”.
Winamac ended the tournament on a high note however, as they were able to beat North Miami in yet another hard fought game 2-1 (25-15, 22-25, 15-9). “We picked up on their offense quickly and served aggressively to pick apart their defense.” said Kasten.
