Culver Girls Academy Builds Momentum on the Road!

It was Senior Night at Harold Weinberg Gymnasium in Knox, but the Lady Cadets of Culver Girls Academy came in looking to make sure they are ready to roll into the Sectional. The definitely made a statement! In a hard fought match, the Lady Cadets appeared to be in control from start to finish, although the win was in no way an easy one. CGA ended up getting the 3-0 win (25-18, 25-20, 25-21) over the Lady Redskins.

“I guess I thought two things” Academy Coach Matt Boland said, “one is, our girls I thought hustled on defense. We were diving and running for balls. I don’t think we played the cleanest volleyball” Boland continued, “but I think they hustled. I think in the end that was probably the difference”. Boland did not shy away from giving Knox credit on the effort. “I thought Knox played a really tough defensive game” he said. “They got a lot of balls up, a lot of balls back over to us. I think in the end they were all close matches, and we came out on top in that battle”.

Knox Head Coach Tammy Dearth was still encouraged after the match, despite the 3-0 loss, “We never gave up” Dearth said. “We hustled throughout the whole match, made some plays that I just wasn’t sure we’d be able to make. Obviously, we’ve got some things to work on before Sectional” Dearth continued, “but overall I’m just really pleased with the effort I got from the girls tonight”. Junior Jayla Williams led the Lady Redskins in kills with five, while Joie Grenner, Cholle Vandy, and Megan Bolen all added four of their own. Emma Binkley contributed 15 assists in the effort for the Lady Skins.
