Lady Bobcats Fall to Tough Fillies on Special Night
It was a special night in Hamlet Indiana, as the Oregon-Davis Lady Bobcats not only celebrated Senior Night, but the night was also dedicated to the fight against Cancer. With the gym decorated in pink, and the two teams wearing different types of pink decor on their uniforms, the night got off to an incredibly inspired start. Prior to the beginning of the varsity game, Oregon-Davis honored their Seniors, who were escorted in front of the massive crowd at the Bobcat Den by their guardians. The Lady Cats did not limit the celebration to just themselves however. After all of the Oregon-Davis Seniors were recognized, Katelyn Sauer, Elaine Zebell, Jayden Worthington, Rikki Risner, and Miranda Mills, took hold of special roses, which they presented to Kaylee Clindaniel, Morgan Kobza, and Olivia Kropp, the three Seniors on Kouts’ roster. From a spectator’s standpoint, after seeing that show of kindness and sportsmanship, the outcome of the game seemed to come in a distant second place.
The Lady Bobcats got off to a great start against the Fillies as they appeared to be zeroed in and energized with all of the celebration going on in front of a very supportive crowd. In an intense back and forth that was seen consistently throughout the evening, the Lady Cats were able to ride the boosted energy from the pregame celebration into a 25-14 win over the Fillies. Unfortunately, for the Starke County crew, the good times did not last long at the Bobcat Den.
Kouts was able to capitalize off of early momentum in the second game, as they stormed their way to a 25-10 win to even the match at one game a piece. From thereon out, things continued to unravel for the Bobcats. In the end, it was the Fillies who came out on top, winning in four games 14-25, 25-10, 25-14, 25-11. Despite the loss, Oregon-Davis Head Coach Stephanie Campbell was able to find the positives in the match. “Katelyn Sauer had 18 serves and 23 hits. So she did very well.” Campbell said after the match. “Rikki Risner, Jayden Worthington, Miranda Mills, all the seniors, they came out and played”.
The Lady Bobcats have little time to lick their wounds, as Sectional play gets underway beginning on October 17th. O-D will take on LaCrosse in the first round of Sectional 50 at West Central. The winner of that game will move on to play Culver Community High School (who drew a first round bye) in the second round.
