Lady Jays Looking To Follow Up On State Title

It was a little less than a year ago when the North Judson San-Pierre Lady Bluejays Volleyball team brought home the school’s first ever State Championship. While the Lady Jays have seen a lot of success once again this year, the postseason is a whole different animal, something the Jays are ready to embrace.

“I think for us, we just have to have a good mentality going in” Head Coach Madi Fingerhut said. “We have to work hard throughout practice this week, we have to have a lot of energy going into the game” she continued. “I think a big thing though is when we play Boone Grove, I think we really have to want to win. I think we’re really going to have to earn the points, as opposed to other teams we’ve played this season”.

The players understand that while they are the defending State Champions, the target on their back has done nothing, but grow in the last year. “Our mentality is that we need to work hard every time” Senior Natalia Gebka said. “We have to work for every point, so we can’t just think about winning completely” she continued. “We have to win every single point in order to get to the top and win the sectional”.

Despite a deep gash in the roster due to graduation “I think our biggest key is just stay focused” said Junior Lilly Frasure about what it will take to repeat as Sectional Champions. “Communicate, always be ready for anything, and work our hardest”.

“As of right now we’re just eager” said Junior Tabitha Pop. “We want to make sure that we come out as Sectional Champs and get as far as we can” she continued. “We’re just trying to keep the energy up and make sure our practices are efficient”.

The Lady Jays will begin defense of their State Title on Thursday, October 17th, when they will take on North Newton in the first round of the Rensselaer Sectional.
