Lady Satellites Fall Out of Orbit at Chesterton

It was a competitive game at Chesterton High School Friday night as the South Central Lady Satellites took on the 4A Lady Trojans in a non-conference bout.

As is the case with most games, the first eight minutes of the ball game saw the two teams feeling each other out, with neither group able to take full control of the first quarter. Each team had moments where it appeared they were starting to take, and hold on to the momentum. That was usually the point where the other team would find some pushback, and regain the momentum. By the end of the first quarter, the Lady Satellites found themselves behind, but still very much in the game, 20-14.

It would be the turnovers that would hamper the Lady Satellites throughout the night, as the defensive pressure of the Lady Trojans would prove to be bothersome from start to finish. South Central would suffer 21 turnovers during the course of the game, against a Chesterton team that did a good job transforming the turnovers into points at their end. The remaining three quarters of the game would see Chesterton outscore South Central 12-9, 10-6, and 16-11 respectively, to get the 58-40 win on their home court.

“I’m not going to make excuses, because we are better basketball players than what we presented ourselves tonight” South Central Head Coach Wes Bucher said following the game. “You should see the locker room. I think they know what we’re capable of, and we did not present it tonight. We’ve got freshmen and sophomores going up against a Duneland school” Bucher continued. “You’ve got a lot of youth out there that’s seeing strength and quickness and pressure that you just don’t see at a 2A level really”.

Never one to shy away from optimism, Bucher was able to find the positives in the effort by his Lady Satellites. “I really liked the fact that we had moments where we did a really good job of being patient” Bucher said. “They were trapping, we’d shot fake, they’d leave their feet, we’d take one dribble and pull up” Bucher continued. “We work on that in practice all day long, and we shoot better in practice. We did get the shots we wanted, a lot of the shots just didn’t fall”.

The Lady Satellites will get a decent break before their next game on November 30th, when they will play host to the John Glenn Lady Falcons, who fell in a hard fought game against LaPorte on Friday, 55-46.
