Culver Wrestling Ready To Add New Chapter in 2019-20!

A program which has had a great deal of success at Culver Community High School over the years has been that of the Cavalier Wrestling program. Optimism is high at Culver as the young season is now underway, and with great optimism, comes great enthusiasm!

“The biggest thing is these guys’ willingness to do the things we’re asking them to” Head Coach Mike Buschman said. “It’s incredible with the amount of first year wrestlers and younger wrestlers, their willingness to go over things, not be afraid of stuff” he continued, “we wrestled a meet over at South Bend Clay. Their willingness to try moves against bigger, stronger guys, that’s the kind of stuff we really want to see”.

The wrestlers for Culver are feeling very confident in not only themselves, but in their teammates as well. “It was hard at the beginning” said Senior Drake Gross, “but everyone is working hard, getting ready for their spot. Definitely Ben Lee, I see a lot of potential in that guy right there” Gross continued. “I’m very confident in this team”.

Junior Treyden Schrimsher feels that the overall conditioning is his greatest improvement so far this year. “Wrestling is an amazing sport. I’m a two sport athlete” Schrimsher said. “I play soccer and wrestling, and definitely wrestling gives you better overall conditioning”. Schrimsher did not hesitate to mention the help he gained from being a multi-sport athlete at Culver. “I can say I had a little jumpstart, considering I was in soccer, so I was a little bit more pre-conditioned”.

The Cavaliers will face their next challenge Tuesday night when they travel to Hoosier North Athletic Conference opponent, North Judson!
