Lady Bobcats Get Tough Home Win!

It was a game that appeared to be well in hand late, with the South Central Lady Satellites in control. The girls from Union Mills were sparked by great all-around team play, as well as an excellent game plan, which was executed nearly to perfection. It would be the Lady Bobcats of Oregon-Davis who would find enough fuel in the tank to come away with the win when the final buzzer sounded, as the energetic Bobcats stunned most in attendance with a 76-75 win!

From an individual standpoint, the second half play of South Central’s Delanie Gale was second to none. After putting up just eight points in the first half, Gale would explode for 27 second-half points on her way to a game-high 35. Gale would end up being one of four Lady Satellites who reached double-digits on the night, as Faith Bigs would add 14, Abbie Tomblin would have 12, and Amber Wolf would get 11. Wolf would also have a team-high 9 rebounds in the effort, while also pulling away 3 steals. Tomblin would be the team leader in the steals category, as she was able to log 4 in the effort.

The Lady Bobcats would be reliant on their trio of big time scorers, as Mercedes Rhodes along with Katie Sauer, and Jayden Worthington would all hit double-digits in their come-from-behind win at the Bobcat Den. The three Lady Bobcats would combine for 66 of the team’s 76 points in the win, with Rhodes putting up 31, Sauer with 19, and Worthington with 16.

Rhodes, who is one of the leading scorers in the State of Indiana, would do more than just lead the team in scoring for the Lady Bobcats. The diverse Junior would also lead the team in rebounding with nine, while also getting two steals. Her 3-point shooting, as well as her effort at the free-throw line would account for a major portion of her scoring, as she connected on four 3-pointers while going 12-16 at the line.

The Lady ‘Cats would hold a fairly comfortable lead at the end of the third quarter, as they led by thirteen heading into the final stanza. The Lady Satellites would not go away quietly however. After getting down by as many as sixteen in the fourth quarter, South Central would continue to fight and even outscore O-D 32-20 in the final quarter. The fourth quarter effort would not be enough for the Lady Satellites, as the Bobcats would do just enough down the stretch to pull out the incredible home win.

Despite her team’s loss, South Central’s Delanie Gale would be named the Ashley Derrickson/Five Star Player of the Game on WKVI, as she had 35 points in the game, with 27 coming in the second-half comeback. She would knock down 6 of her team’s 9 made 3-pointers, and would also tally 5 rebounds to go along with 2 steals in the effort.

The Lady Bobcats improve to 9-2 on the year, while the Lady Satellites drop to 8-4. O-D will be back in action tonight in the first game of a boy/girl double-header, while South Central will off until December 28th, when they travel to Valparaiso.
