Lady Warriors Get Rivalry Win At Home!

The Winamac Lady Warriors were not about to take their cross-county rival lightly simply because of the differing records. With Winamac coming into the regular season bout holding an impressive 6-1 record, and having not given up more than 39 points all season, it might have been understandable to think the Lady Warriors were due for a letdown. That was not going to be the case for Head Coach Kole Kroft and his team.

“We got a lot of girls involved, and had a lot of balanced scoring” Kroft said after the win. “That’s what we’re looking for. We didn’t really run a lot of offense in the second half, just wanted to run motion and play a little bit” he continued. “We talked about it halftime, we don’t know what we’re going to do, so how are they going to know?” Kroft said with a smile.

The Lady Warriors were looking for balanced scoring, and balanced scoring is exactly what they achieved with nine of the twelve players on the roster scoring at least two points. Winamac was led in scoring by Blake Bailey as well as Hailey Sanders who each scored eleven points a piece. Also cracking double-digits for the Lady Warriors was Taylor Jennings who scored 10.

While the Lady Trojans of West Central struggled throughout most of the ball game, they had a strong scoring performance from Junior Tori Culp, who had a game high fourteen points in the loss. The sharpshooting Junior was able to knock down three 3-pointers, while also going 5-6 at the free-throw line.

“Offensively I thought, once we were able to get our heads on straight and run some offense”, West Central Head Coach Tyson Mellon said following the loss. “I thought we had quite a few open looks, we just couldn’t hit tonight. The scoreboard measures a lot of things” Mellon continued, “but sometimes it doesn’t measure heart. We’ve got a lot of heart”.

The Lady Warriors will be back in action December 5th, when they travel to Rensselaer, while the Lady Trojans will be home against Oregon-Davis on the 5th.
