Lady Satellites Look To Make History At Semistate!

After winning the school’s second ever Girls Basketball Regional, joining the Lady Satellites of 2005, South Central will be looking to make their first ever trip to the State Finals, and they are doing this run in Class 2A.

It has been a heck of a ride for the 21-7 Lady Satellites, who are currently on a six-game winning streak, going back to their last regular season game against the LaCrosse Lady Tigers. Now in his third year as the Head Coach of the Lady Satellites, Wes Bucher is keeping things simple in his mind. Just one win away from the 2A State Finals, Bucher feels the key to success is fairly simple.

“Free throws”, he said when asked what it would take for his Satellites to come away with a win over Frankton High School. “It’s funny, when you last came in and spoke with our girls, not one of them mentioned free throws. Then we walk into Regionals and shoot 47% and 67%” Bucher continued. “You know, those games are close because of that”.

Improvement from the beginning of the season has been absolutely huge for the Lady Satellites. “I think the area I have improved the most is defense” said Senior Lexy Wade. “My defense is what I focus on the most. There is always ways you can improve your defense. Just communication, when you combine your defense with communication, it really helps the team and it helps you make sure that you see the entire floor”. Senior teammate Faith Biggs believes staying focused will be the biggest key to a successful performance at Semistate. “Defense, because that’s what has helped us with the last two Championships that we have won” Biggs continued, “and staying focused. Not getting in our heads so much”.

Along with many of her teammates, South Central’s leading scorer Amber Wolf is involved in a great deal of extracurricular activities, in addition to basketball. Her love of basketball comes down to a simple mindset. “I love that I can just come in and focus on one thing” she said when asked what drives her to working year round at the sport. “There are so many things in my life, I’m involved in so many activities, that sometimes it’s hard to balance basketball with the rest of my life” she continued. “It’s good to just come in for two hours, three hours, a day and just focus on one thing. That’s what I love about basketball so much”.

The Lady Satellites will be looking to win their first ever 2A Regional Championship in Girls Basketball Saturday night, in a game that will be aired on the Voice of the Valley, K99.3 WKVI!
